What I will do having been in this Learning Community
Well, having been in the 'Global Engineering Cultures & Practices learning community has made me feel like I want to go out and have a 'new' international experience. Because of all of the experience I have had in Europe, I believe that I came here thinking that I was fully versed in everything international.....NOT TRUE! I have learned much more about some of the countries that I have never been to, and one thing in particular that I want to do is find some kind of internship or semester study abroad in China. It would be a completely foreign experience, which I think is a big part of an education - experiencing and learning things that you haven't before. So, we'll probably look into planning it into my junior year, and go from there! I think that many students have the desire for this type of experience, but I'm sure there are many distractions and other opportunities that keep them from going, so I hope to stay true to my initiative!

Wow I feel the exact same. Coming from and living from Japan for my whole life made me feel like I had a huge international experience. I was terribly wrong. I have also learned a lot about other countries thanks to engineering 103, my other classes, and friends. It will be very difficult but worth it to study abroad at some point. I'm pretty sure you will be able to handle and go through with it. Means you have to take some Chinese before junior year and I don't exactly know how many credits of the foreign language you have to take but good luck with it!

Following through with my decision to study abroad is going to be my biggest problem as well. I really do want to study abroad, especially in Europe for me, but my class schedule already seems like it will be really full and I have no idea how I can fit it in. On top of that I think I told you about that three year 'EcoCar' competition that I want to do. I think it will be a great experience I just need to find a way to make it realistic.

I agree with everyone above me. I have spent several years in both India and the United States, and coming to Purdue I felt like I was fairly adept with interacting with anything international. In that sense, ENGR103 was somewhat of a kick in the pants for me, just like it was for Patrick and Josh. ENGR103 reminded me that there is so many interesting cultures and countries that I have not experienced yet.
ReplyDeleteLike Brandon, I am also concerned about finding the time to do study abroad, even though it is something I really want to do. However, I feel that Purdue has a great support system in place for students just like me. With the right guidance from the Career office, I am 100% sure that I will be able to schedule some time out of my busy four years at Purdue to take part in the great experience of study abroad.
