Experience from Engr103

I fully plan on exploring every opportunity for me to study abroad in any of my countries of interest. Coming to Purdue, I had not even thought of it yet and did not imagine myself doing something like that; by both engineering 103 and interacting with students and faculty I became very fond of the idea. Professor Dare opened a new world of opportunities for me by having me meet with Mary Schweitzer. The meeting was very valuable to me and really was the confirmation I needed to want to make studying abroad a reality. International experiences are so valuable in both academics and growing as a person, engineering 103 not only got me hooked on the idea, it brought me within reach of it. With this class under my belt I am also more prepared to become an engineer or work internationally. I learned all about how different cultures have very different views on even engineering topics. For instance, the average German engineer is much more focused on producing a sustainable and quality product, while the American engineer focuses more on how quickly and cheaply the product can be produced.

  1. Really - you hadn't considered doing a study abroad before coming here? For me, one of the big advantages to coming to a school like Purdue was the international connections they have with both companies (for internships and employment opportunities) and schools all around the globe. I was very impressed with the map that we've been shown a few times this semester with dots for all of the 'international connections' around the globe that the Global Engineering office has approved/made legitimate partnership programs with. I think that it goes to show one thing that you get with a school like Purdue that smaller ones would have a hard time offering - a true 'international degree' that includes (as far as the students are willing) hands-on international work or study experience.

  2. I think Purdue has a great environment that promotes studying abroad. The international students seem to like studying in the US and I think it makes American students want to study abroad. I can't believe that you never had the interest of studying abroad before Purdue. I always had the idea of studying abroad in my head. I do need to go have a talk with Mary Scweitzer. It seems like she can basically guarantee a student who has the desire to gain that international experience that he or she can study abroad. I can't wait till I actually go through with the international experience.

  3. You want to study abroad. Visiting new places is one of my most favorite things to do. It is a lot of fun and you are able to learn a lot. For one it is an adventure and it is fun trying to get used to a place that is so much different than your own home. It is hard being away from the people you love but you make friends that can become important to you also. You can adventure in the country even when you are not doing school work. I would totally suggest you to study abroad and then earn the experience to prove that you can work anywhere. engr 103
