First Day At Work

Finally the day came when i was dying to work in a kitchen . I have this weird fascination towards working in a big kitchen. When i entered the Ford dinning court i was a bit nervous because it was my first time working somewhere . When i was having my dinner , i met an Indian guy. He asked my name and i asked him what are the easier counters to work on. he said either go to salad one or do the dishes in the kitchen :) .I quickly had my dinner and went to the International counter of the Ford. The chef was preparing the food and i didn't even try to ask what to do because i was so scared to ask her that what i have to do . She was so dedicated to her work that i was enjoying to see her tossing vegetables . After few minutes , my supervisor came and told me what i had to do. Then came one Malaysian guy , who was also working on my counter. It was his second week at Ford and first time at my counter. Talking to me gave me some confidence. After serving some noodle soup i was working with full confidence . After some time my friends came to my counter to cheer for me . They said that i was working with dedication that i didn't even notice them while serving the food. Whenever an hour passed i thought i have earned this much and got happy every time . It was a big deal for me as it was my time that i was working . As i love to cook food , I was so happy to serve even that day because I was in the kitchen . I love that place. That i was feeling excited and was not at all tired after working for five hours. My first day at work will be special moment in my life because i always dreamt of working in a big kitchen like a Ford's big kitchen .

  1. Well, your post took me back a few years...my first job was in food service as well - at Papa Murphy's Pizza!

I remember all too well 'the first day of work' feeling - and, that of the first day of any new, different experience for that matter. I know that each time I've approached a new job, I've had those feelings of excitement that come with new adventures mixed with intense nervousness as I really don't want to mess anything up because of my lack of experience and knowledge. Having someone ask you to do something you don't know how to do, and giving them the 'deer in headlights' smile, lol.
But, I think that it is awesome that in addition to have the opportunity to study at the best school in the world, you get to have this adventure with your first job that you enjoy so much!

  2. Is it really awesome? Going through your experience makes me realize my stupidity of not filling the SSN form yet. I surely will do that tomorrow. I also very keen to work at Earhart with such dedication. I'm pretty scared too. Frankly, I have never cooked my life. Hope they don't ask me to do something I do not know, else I'm pretty sure of messing things up. My working days might be wednesday and saturday. yay! I'll be earning very soon.(Jayne)

  3. I worked on the salad line in our school cafeteria at Ohio University. It really was fun, both the work and chatting with other workers. Its also not very brain-intensive, so you should still be able to go home and think about homework when you need to!
